A+O DIY | POSTCARDS FOR A POSITIVE CHANGE
Stacey recently threw a birthday party for one of our good pals, DJ Mia Moretti. While the ambiance and accouterments were as fab as ever, this party had an important mission: to communicate the change we would like to see in the world to our elected officials. Our foremothers fought hard to ensure we had rights to clean water, to safe living conditions, to a great education, and so much more -- we mustn’t take these rights for granted! If you’re interested in banning together with your besties and making your voices heard, follow our step-by-step guide for creating your own postcard party.
STEP 1: CHOOSE A CAUSE!
Perhaps it’s a local issue, animal rights, reproductive rights, or whatever may be near and dear to your heart. Do your research to understand the status quo in your area and what could improve matters.
STEP 2: GET TO KNOW YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS
Pop quiz: Can you name your state senator? Your mayor? Your representative in the U.S. House of Representatives? These are the folks that make the laws that influence how we go through our days. The internet contains all of the answers to this quiz including how your elected officials vote on each issue!
STEP 3: PUT THE PEN TO THE POSTCARD
Get or - bonus points - make a postcard (make sure it’s regulation size) or use our handy template above. What message do you want to share with your elected officials? Remember, politicians speak policy so get specific about how you would like them to vote on an upcoming bill or what kind of legislation you would like to see on the books.
STEP 4: STAMP AND SEND!
All addresses are available on your elected official’s office website. Sign, stamp and put in the nearest mailbox! Congratulations - you’ve done your civic duty for the day!
