WHAT'S YOUR FAVE INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE?
Molly:“At the end of the day, we can endure much more than we think we can.” ― Frida Kahlo
I like this quote because it takes you beyond the breaking point. The place where you thought you couldn't do it and then you could. The place where all the magic happens.
Shamikah: "A strong spirit transcends rules." - Prince
WAS THERE EVER A TOUGH MOMENT WHERE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT THROWING IN THE TOWEL?
Molly: I think as an artist you have a lot of those moments. It's a lifestyle created out of love, hard work and chance. I couldn't keep doing it if I didn't love it so deeply. Sometimes the weight of the instability and self doubt can be so heavy that it feels like you're sitting on the bottom of the deep end of the pool but making people laugh is one of the greatest gifts you can get back from your efforts. There is nothing quite like taking something that is difficult to talk about and making it funny and digestible and watching people laugh and forget themselves. I for sure have thought, "I should have gotten a regular job" or "I should have just married that guy when I had the chance" but truly there is no amount of stability that I could trade in for this.
I think last Tuesday? This industry is a compilation of tough moments. I remember reading in an Uta Hagen book, that it takes an unshakeable desire to even want to do this thing and thinking, "Yeah Uta, you right, you right, you right." So after those tough moments, we dust ourselves off and try again like Aaliyah.
OBSESSION AS OF LATE?
Murder She Wrote is available on Netflix and I can't stop watching it. Jessica Fletcher never loses her cool, jogs every morning, writes best selling novels, is NEVER without a chic neck scarf, solves murders and always has tea ready for her guests. And I'm just like how does she do it? She's truly the Beyonce of detectives. Also Bojack Horseman, I just keep thinking it can't get any better and then it does. Is it possible to be attracted to a cartoon horse? Maybe.
Mostly space, robots, and virtual reality. I love to paint and just started using Tilt Brush so maybe when the robots do take over (Molly is an expert on when this is going to happen)I'll be wearing a VR headset and they will take me as one of their own.
WHAT'S YOUR GO-TO GIG AT A COMEDY CLUB LEWK?
I like to wear stuff that makes me feel strong and confident. Usually it's a pant of some kind because I always wanna make sure I can do a cartwheel if I have to. I think my atheistic is probably a mix between Frida Kahlo, Katherine Hepburn and a relaxed mime.
Fancy pants have always been my go to. I love a good fancy pattern. I wore the same AO bell bottoms to every improv show I was in for a good year. Now I have more than one pair of pants, so that's good.
SECRET FOR MAKING THE FRIENDS & BUSINESS PARTNERS DUO WORK?
We really trust and respect each other. It's easy for us to get along as friends but I think what has kept us together as a duo is how we disagree. We don't fight. We for sure have disagreements but we don't fight. We always know that wherever the other is coming from is a place of wanting to create the best content she can and usually it's a matter of just needing a better understanding of what it is. We're good at listening to each other and hearing what the other person is saying even when it's not what we necessarily want to hear. Also, Shamikah is a lot of fun. (Shamikah says the same of Molly) We work a lot and long hours so it's important to be able to make it a good time.
DON'T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT?
Chapstick. I will turn around and go back up my four flight walk up if I forget it. You have to have priorities.
My moleskin. I wouldn't know where to go or when. I've tried using the calendar on my phone, but if isn't in my paper day planner, it's probably not gonna happen.
WORDS OF WISDOM TO WOMEN?
Make stuff and surround yourself with other women who you respect and admire. Do it as often as possible. Rinse. Wash. Repeat.
