Whitney Wolfe is the queen bee of the startup tech world. As the Founder and CEO of the dating app, Bumble, she doesn’t shy away from making the first move. Although she got married recently and met her husband through mutual friends, Bumble is something she would have used if it existed earlier. Thankfully for the rest of us, the app has been empowering women and making connections since 2014 and it doesn’t stop there. Bumble’s latest endeavors, BumbleBIZZ and Bumble BFF, continue to revolutionize networking and the perception of meeting online. It’s also no surprise that her progressive business model and passion for helping others connect earned her a spot on Forbes’ 30 under 30 class of 2017. Modern-day match maker, Whitney Wolfe, is this month’s #aobossbabe!

We LOVE that Bumble is based on a mission of spreading kindness and female empowerment. How do you practice what you preach?

It's important to think about what you say before you say it and to surround yourself with kind and caring people because it's contagious!

In your opinion, where is the future of the tech industry headed?

My hope is to see the industry doing more good and becoming more inclusive.

If you weren’t a tech-mogul, what would you be?

An event designer, I love design and am a detail nerd! There is something so fun about creating the right aesthetic for a party. Or I would go into Healthcare and work on modernizing the entire system.

How have other women in your life helped you get to where you are today?

The women in my life serve as constant inspiration whether it be their success or failure. I try to make sure we are using their experiences to help others and lead as examples.

What’s the best part of your job?

Brainstorming with my kick ass team around the world so we can continue to develop Bumble for our users.

What does being a #aobossbabe mean to you?

Being an #abossbabe means rising to the occasion, whatever that may be!

Who inspires you?

Our team who work so hard everyday to represent Bumble, our users who continue to take risks and create opportunities for love, friendship and work.

How did you come up with your app’s name?

I originally wanted the app to be called Moxie, but unfortunately there was a trademark issue. Someone on the legal team suggested Bumble - at first I hated it but then after my friends mom said "I like it, just think ‘find your honey on bumble!’” it clicked and I decided Bumble was the perfect name!

Favorite app? (Besides Bumble)

Your secret to success?

Take risks, don't take no for an answer, and ALWAYS put your users first!

Any new ventures on the horizon?

We just launched BumbleBizz and are so excited to be able to connect our users and help them professionally.

Favorite activity to de-stress?

Cooking! I love to cook and unwind after a busy day. There is something therapeutic about making meals for your loved ones.

Your wedding was beautiful. Why Positano?

My now husband and I had a trip planned before he proposed, so shortly after he did we traveled there and fell in love and knew it was the perfect destination for our wedding!

As the queen bee of online dating, what’s your romance philosophy?

Do not waste your time with anyone who doesn't lift you up. Life is too short to waste time on anyone who makes you feel bad.
